School Spirit Week
**Remember that all clothes worn for Spirit Week MUST be school appropriate**
**NOT ALLOWED: wigs, hats, or masks. Students will be asked to remove these items if they are worn to school**
Monday, November 13 – PJ Day
To kick off spirit week we have a fun and comfortable pajama day. You can wear your choice of pajamas (MUST be school appropriate)
Tuesday, November 14 – Twin Tuesday
Who’s your bet friend? You know that first person that came to mind? Well, they would be the person for this day (MUST be school appropriate)
Wednesday, November 15 – Wayback Wednesday
Do you like clothes of the olden days? Then this is your day! Wear your choice of clothes anywhere from the 1700’s to the 1980’s. (MUST be school appropriate)
Thursday, November 16 – School Spirit
Show your school spirit by wearing WVMS colors! Support your team! (MUST be school appropriate)
Friday, November 17 – Freaky Friday
Freaky Friday is just a fun mismatched day. You can come to school in mismatched clothes, shoes, and socks. You could wear your hair all messed up or dyed. (MUST be school appropriate)
Thank you to all our AMAZING vendors for sharing your business with our Holiday Boutique and for supporting our school!! Thank you to our WVMS teachers, staff, families and the community for come out and shopping the boutique. It was a great event!!
8th Grade T-shirts
This year the PTSA 8th grade planning committee has designed t-shirts with the help of Classic Print Company. T-shirts are $13 and are Bella Canvas Super Soft Tri-Blend. The last day to order these shirts is November 20, 2017 and there will not be another chance to order them.

Battle of the Grades – November 1-21
Parents, Teachers, Grandparents, Staff and Neighbors of WVMS: Please consider a gift to the Foundation. All donations are tax-deductible according to IRS standards and all funds go towards the educational needs of WVMS students.
The winning grade will have an ice cream party!!
8th Grade – Pay it Forward
Show that you are the leaders of the school. You were the first class who benefitted all 3 years from the establishment of the Foundation.

7th Grade – Basement Dwellers No More!
Show how much you love your school (and want to ensure your middle school maintains the 1:1 technology ratio).
Why the 7th Grade will win: The Class of 2023 is the largest class at WVMS.
6th Grade – Figuring Out This Middle School Thing
You figured out your locker combination and where all your classes are. You are no longer Rocky Hill, Bluegrass, Northshore or A.L. Lotts, you are WOLVES.
Why the 6th Grade will win: The Class of 2024 is so sweet and adorable.

WVMS Fantasy of Trees
Once again West Valley Middle will sponsor a decorated tree in the Fantasy of Trees. The Fantasy of Trees is an annual event that will take place at the Knoxville Convention Center – November 22-26. The proceeds benefit East Tennessee Children’s Hospital, knoxville’s only not-for-profit Comprehensive Regional Pediatric Center. Many students in our West Valley Family benefit from the presence of this first rate medical facility .
Our theme this year: Over the River and Through the Woods (Woodland Animal Themed)
Please consider helping by donating ornaments, supplies, and decorations that are Woodland Animal Themed by November 10. Cash Donations are also welcome (WVMS). There are specific guidelines regarding the types of materials that can be used which can be viewed by clicking on the link below.
West Valley Middle School is proud to participate in the National PTA® Reflections program and has had several students recognized by County, Tennessee and National PTAs.
The 2017-2018 National PTA® Reflections theme is: “Within Reach”

The PTSA will be collecting Box Tops throughout the school year. If you have any you would like to send in, please either bring them into the school office or have your child turn them in to their homeroom teacher.
The final deadline for boxtops for this school year will be Friday, Janurary 26.
**Please note that we are not collecting Labels for Education.
Please check the expiration date of your Box Tops before sending them in.
Please make sure to indicate child’s name and homeroom on bag or envelope submitted so they receive credit.

Treats for Troops
Treats for Troops is a yearlong Student Council project that’s aimed at providing treats for those that serve our country. If you are able to donate any non-meltable snacks please send them into school after each break (Fall, Holiday, and Spring) and the Student Council will make sure that are passed along to our troops.
Note: It takes 2 weeks for items to reach the base and they need to be donated in boxes.
Examples of treats: Goldfish, peanut butter crackers, beef jerky, energy bars, gum, mints
It’s time to order your yearbook! If you send in an order to the school, your student can give it to his/her homeroom teacher or send it to Ms. Webster. Yearbooks are $55. Remember, as in years past, we will NOT be ordering extras.

8th Grade Baby Pictures
The deadline to send in baby pictures of your precious 8th grader to include in this year’s yearbook is November 24. Please send these into Brittany Webster at email@example.com
November is National Novel Writing Month
NaNoWriMo – is National Novel Writing Month. Students who decide to participate should:
1. Get a permission form in the library or from their ELA teacher
2. Sign up on the online classroom
3. Come to the three meetings in October or get the information from the library website
4. Set up your goals for a daily writing word count
5. Come to a Start off Celebration October 31st after school in the library
6. Write all month (November)
7. Revise with help later
